Martin Parr

Martins Parr is well known for his British social documentary photography. He uses flash to create quite a garish tone, and make the colours more vivid. His images are similar to postcards, and does not glamorise the subject.

He was accused of exploiting the working class with his portrayal of New Brighton in 1986, but he said he was just picturing what he saw.

The use of flash creates very artificial lighting that seems unnatural, especially for a country like England where the colours tend to be duller, compared to a country like Italy, where as previously seen in Robin Hammond’s images, the colours of Italy are much more vibrant naturally.
